Scale Modelling as a Hobby

(Or should it be art?)

A scale model is generally a representation or copy of an object Scale Modelling as a Hobby - Fokker Tri-plane that is larger or smaller than the actual size of the object being represented. Whether it is a battleship a robotic ant. Very often as far as hobbyists are concerned the scale model is smaller than the original but in industry the model may be used as a guide to making the object in full size.

Scale models can be built from prepared kits by companies like Tamiya Scale Model - German Tank Destroyer, Marder III M Airfix, Academy, Italeri, Revell, HAT, Dragon, Fujimi, Esci, Kangnam, Hasegawa, Tamiya, Trumpeter and Emhar where the box contains from a dozen or so fairly large parts to many hundreds of minute items to create the finnished model or build your own from scratch using detailed plans and raw materials.

The scale ratios for modelling vary from 1:2500 (0.122mm/foot) a European size for naval wargaming and ship scale models to 1:6 (50.8mm/foot) for figures, motorcycles, rail cannons, armored vehicles and military dioramas. Model railways have unique scale or gauge designations, such as, from the smallest, Z gauge, through N - HO - OO - EM - P4 - O - to the largest S gauge.

Model figure scale models are usually expressed as a scale on the height of a six-foot (1.83m) figure, e.g. 54mm. Other model scales are generally given as a ratio which expresses what a measurement on the model represents, on the actual object.
